Five death row inmates at Karachi Central Jail pledged to donate their corneas after their passing during a one-day Free Eye Camp organized by the Pakistan Eye Bank Society.

This act echoes a longstanding tradition initiated by prisoner Habibullah in 1968, with many death row convicts following suit by signing Will Cards of Corneal Donation.

Qazi Sajid Ali, President of the Pakistan Eye Bank Society, expressed gratitude to the inmates, highlighting the enduring impact of their selfless act, which he termed as Sadqa Jaria, a form of continuous charity.

The Eye Camp, inaugurated by DIG Prisons Mohammad Hasan Saheto, received praise for its commendable initiative.

Saheto emphasized the importance of ensuring the wellbeing of prisoners, urging them to prioritize their ocular health by availing the facilities provided within the prison premises. During the camp, a total of 352 prisoners underwent comprehensive eye check-ups conducted by ophthalmologists from the Pakistan Eye Bank Society.

Additionally, eyeglasses and medications were distributed on-site to those in need.
