Novak Djokovic advanced past China’s Wu Yibing in a grueling four-set match at Wimbledon on Monday. The 39-year-old won 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 after three hours and 12 minutes.
Djokovic expressed his happiness despite not feeling fresh, acknowledging the significance of Wimbledon in his career. He aims to equal Roger Federer’s all-time Wimbledon record by winning two more matches.
The Serbian is set to face former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round. Tsitsipas, ranked 87th, parted ways with his father and coach Apostolos ahead of Wimbledon.
Djokovic, seeded seventh, could potentially meet the world’s top player in the final if circumstances align next week.
