Eight IHC judges receive ‘threatening letters filled with powder’

Reports indicate that eight judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) have received suspicious letters, prompting security concerns within the judicial community.

According to judicial sources, two judges’ staff discovered mysterious powder inside the letters, prompting law enforcement intervention. A team from Islamabad Police is currently examining the contents and determining the nature of the powder.

The letters, allegedly signed by a woman named Resham, wife of Waqar Hussain, also contained a threatening sign. Promptly, the Islamabad High Court summoned the inspector general of Islamabad police and the deputy inspector general (DIG) of security to address the security breach.

Federal police have initiated a thorough investigation, with forensic experts analyzing the suspicious powder. The matter has been referred to the Counter-Terrorism Department, and a case will be registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

All letters and courier-related items have been seized for further examination. The affected court staff have received medical attention after experiencing burning sensations in their eyes upon opening the letters.

This incident follows a letter by six IHC judges to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), alleging interference in judiciary matters, which included instances of intimidation by intelligence officials.
