The Election Commission in Pakistan has unveiled the schedule for a crucial by-election to fill the vacated NA-256 Khuzdar seat. Following BNP-Mengal’s Sardar Akhtar Mengal stepping down, polling will take place on April 5.

This development comes after public notification of the election was issued on February 18. Nomination papers can be submitted from February 20 to February 24, and a list of candidates nominated will be published on February 25. Election symbols will be allocated on March 18.

The Deputy Commissioner of Khuzdar has been appointed as the District Returning Officer (DRO) for this by-election process.

What makes this scenario intriguing is that the vacancy in the NA-256 seat occurred post-Mengal’s resignation, which was recently accepted. This development underscores the impact of political resignations on district-level electoral processes and highlights the Election Commission’s swift response to accommodate such changes within a tight timeframe.

The upcoming election is an integral part of Pakistan’s democratic landscape and reflects the intricate dynamics that sometimes accompany internal party transitions in parliamentary bodies.
