Federal Minister for Energy, Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, has unveiled a significant drop in electricity bills for April, offering respite to consumers nationwide.
The announced reduction of Rs 3.82 per unit marks a notable relief, attributed to adjustments in both quarterly assessments and fuel prices.
Explaining the details, Minister Leghari clarified that April’s fuel price adjustment has plummeted to Rs 4.92 per unit, down from the previous month’s Rs 7.6 per unit, resulting in a Rs 2.14 per unit decrease in fuel costs. Furthermore, adjustments in the first quarter have contributed an additional reduction of Rs 1.68 per unit.
Highlighting the directive from the Prime Minister to shield citizens from financial strain, Leghari underscored the government’s dedication to easing consumer burdens.
Emphasizing the significance of these adjustments in determining monthly power generation costs and their direct influence on consumer bills, Leghari stressed the pivotal role of NEPRA, the regulatory authority, in establishing reference tariffs for the year, guiding subsequent adjustments.
The minister affirmed NEPRA’s commitment to regular reviews and transparent determination of fuel price adjustments to ensure fairness in electricity billing.
Moreover, Leghari emphasized the importance of utilizing this cost difference to prevent an escalation in the country’s deficit, noting NEPRA’s monthly determination of fuel price adjustments as integral to this process.
