Electricity Prices to Surge, Consumers May Face 49 Billion Rupee Burden

A setback for electricity consumers as distribution companies have requested a hike of 5.62 rupees per unit, adding a burden of 49 billion rupees on consumers nationwide.

NEPRA had previously increased electricity prices by 4.13 rupees per unit in the monthly adjustment for November, and now a hearing will determine whether further price hikes will be implemented.

According to government guidelines, the three-month adjustment will also apply to electricity consumers.
