England Edge Out Nepal in Heart-Palpating T20 World Cup Win

England narrowly availed themselves of a last-ball thriller in Mumbai to defeat Nepal by four runs, avoiding one of cricket’s most anticipated upsets. In a nail-biting chase for 185, the underdog team demonstrated remarkable resilience against England’s top-order bowlers. Chasing heroically, Lokesh Bam, playing to his strengths with an unbeaten 39 off just nine balls, saw Nepal very close but ultimately fell short at 180-6.

Nepal began their chase in a spirited manner, with Kushal Bhurtel smashing a blistering innings of 29 from just 17 deliveries. He was quickly dismissed by Jacob Bethell who then took the wicket of Rohit Paudel to bring the run chase under pressure. The duo’s partnership in those initial overs laid the groundwork for Nepal’s challenge, as Dipendra Singh Airee and Rohit Paudel coaxed a 100-run stand.

England’s premier bowlers Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid were tasked with defending their wicket. Archer proved particularly effective from his first over, conceding just six runs in the subsequent two overs. However, Nepal’s batsmen shifted to the experienced leg-spinner Adil Rashid who managed to extract 19 runs off three deliveries before Dipendra Singh Airee hoisted him for a pair of sixes and a four. This partnership brought up the second fifty for Nepal.

The match took an abrupt turn with Paudel making his way back, hitting a powerful six in the 15th over to push Nepal’s total to 126-4. The momentum seemed about to shift when Jacks delivered the crucial blow by ending the partnership at three wickets with Airee being caught out for 44 off Banton’s delivery.

With eight wickets remaining and 62 runs needed in ten overs, Nepal found themselves in a perilous situation. England’s left-arm seamer Tom Banton delivered the knockout punch when he trapped Airee on his back foot, sending him sprawling to Phil Salt at deep mid-wicket. The game seemed sealed when Aravind Curran returned for a final over and struck with authority, smashing three sixes off Jacks.

Despite Curran’s contributions, Nepal managed to reach 24 off the last eight balls, just enough to ensure an unlikely win in this closely contested match. England’s bowlers, especially Archer (1-42) and Dawson (2-21), were crucial to their narrow victory. This thrilling encounter showcased how a minnow like Nepal could challenge the mighty team of England.

The cricketing world held its breath as Nepal fought back from adversity in this high-stakes contest, but the final delivery ultimately belonged to England, who capitalized on their experience and execution to claim an unlikely win over a confident Nepal.
