Europe Faces Difficult Summer Amid Iran Crisis, Fuel Shortages

The EU Energy Commissioner, Dan Jorgensen, has warned that the coming summer will be difficult for Europe due to potential fuel shortages caused by the war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The European Union is preparing measures to mitigate these impacts on jet fuel supply.

Jorgensen told reporters in Madrid that if necessary, the EU may redistribute or share its existing jet fuel resources. European airlines have already expressed concerns about possible jet fuel shortages within weeks due to the conflict in Iran, which has blocked the primary route for Middle Eastern oil through the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately 75% of Europe’s jet fuel supply currently comes from this region.
