Exports Decline 7.14% in Nine Months

Pakistan’s export performance for the first three quarters of fiscal year 2025-26 saw a decline, with total exports amounting to Rs6,393 billion, down from Rs6,884 billion in the same period last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

In March alone, exports reached Rs635.5 billion, marking a slight decrease compared to February and a significant drop from March 2025. The top exported commodities included knitwear at Rs92.4 billion, readymade garments at Rs84.1 billion, bed wear at Rs67 billion, rice (other) at Rs43.1 billion, cotton cloth at Rs40.2 billion, towels at Rs25.3 billion, made-up articles excluding towels and bed wear at Rs17.6 billion, cotton yarn at Rs17.2 billion, fish and fish preparations at Rs14.8 billion, and basmati rice at Rs13.4 billion.

Imports during the same period totaled Rs14,254 billion, a rise of 7.98% from Rs13,200 billion in the corresponding period last year. March imports were recorded at Rs1,430 billion, down by 3.44% compared to February.

The machinery sector saw significant growth, with overall machinery imports increasing by 10.28%, reflecting improved investor confidence and policy continuity. Agricultural machinery imports rose by 18.69% to $102 million, textile machinery surged by 20.94% to $449 million, power-generating machinery increased by 16.20% to $632 million, construction and mining machinery jumped by 72.62% to $177 million, while office machinery saw a rise of 38.86% to $520 million.

Sports goods exports also showed growth, increasing by 12.99% to $319 million during July-March compared with the previous year’s $282 million. Football exports rose by 17.81% to $197 million, gloves exports fell slightly by 6.86% to $44.8 million, and other sports goods surged by 15.20% to $76.9 million. In March, sports goods exports increased by 9.42% from February and 10.90% from the same month in 2025. Football exports rose by 9.36%, while gloves exports climbed by 14.27%.
