Fans Delayed: Demon Hunters K-pop Sequel Pushes to 2030

Fans have been eagerly anticipating the new installment of the popular animated musical series “Demon Hunters,” which promised to be an extension of the captivating K-pop genre. However, recent reports from The Hollywood Reporter suggest that this latest venture might not see the light of day until at least 2030 or later.

The first part of the series, a musical-fantasy film set in a fantastical realm where Korean pop stars find themselves in dire situations as hunters for supernatural creatures, debuted in July 2025. The show quickly amassed a dedicated fanbase and garnered significant attention within the animation industry, with Sony Pictures Animation being at the helm.

Kristine Belson, currently serving as president of Sony Pictures Animation, explained to the outlet that the current directors—Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans—are preoccupied with promoting their debut film’s Oscar campaign. “There’s been a lot to tend to in terms of the awards campaign,” Kristine remarked, noting that after all the buzz surrounding the big parties and accolades, they’ll be ready to return to work on the sequel.

Despite the current directorial focus shifting to securing Oscars for the first installment, the anticipation remains high. However, it seems fans have a different opinion about this extended timeline. One X comment noted: “Generational fumble. The kids who loved this will have aged up and out by then.” Another user wrote: “The kids who are obsessed with it today are going to have long moved onto something else by then,” suggesting that waiting too long could harm the franchise’s appeal.

“I know we all want a quality sequel but waiting too long will kill the brand,” another individual wrote on a forum, reflecting broader concerns among fans. The industry is keenly watching whether these delays might impact “Demon Hunters”’s enduring relevance and reputation in the ever-changing landscape of animated films and music-based entertainment.
