Actor Faysal Quraishi has expressed concerns over the future of Pakistan’s entertainment industry, warning that policies favoring foreign productions could jeopardize local content creation and thousands of jobs.
In a video posted on Instagram with the caption “First think of yourselves,” Quraishi urged policymakers to carefully consider long-term consequences for Pakistan’s television and film sectors. He noted that criticism from industry professionals should be seen as concern for the sector’s future rather than resistance to change.
The actor acknowledged recent government efforts to support the entertainment sector, stating that initiatives aimed at boosting local productions have been welcomed by the industry.
However, Quraishi questioned policy measures that provide incentives for international productions while leaving local producers facing challenges. He highlighted the growing international popularity of Pakistani dramas and their cultural export value, noting that these shows are appreciated globally regardless of language barriers.
Quraishi emphasized the extensive network of workers involved in producing a single drama, stating that even small losses in production slots could lead to job loss for many people. He also expressed concern over the potential impact of artificial intelligence on jobs within creative industries, particularly for voice artists and dubbing professionals.
He concluded by urging authorities to prioritize local talent and employment when formulating policies, arguing that the growth of the entertainment industry depends on protecting the ecosystem that supports it.
