Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman took a sharp stance against the incumbent government’s leadership at a recent youth convention in Rawalpindi. He declared February 8 elections “fraudulent,” pointing out that his party, JUI-F, refuses to recognize the current government’s mandate.
Fazlur Rehman emphasized Pakistan’s democratic struggle during his speech, praising young people for their active participation in this movement. “Today’s gathering is significant because young voices are joining us,” he said. “I welcome them and pray that their efforts lead our nation towards true freedom and Islamic governance.”
He went on to criticize the February 8 elections held two years prior as being manipulated by government authorities, declaring, “The results were rejected due to a fraudulent mandate.” Fazlur Rehman declared JUI-F’s struggle not driven by power-seeking but rather principles grounded in moderation and reason.
Regarding foreign policy, he condemned Pakistan for sitting alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Gaza peace board. “How can one sit with the killer of Muslims?” he asked rhetorically. “If other countries are boycotting Netanyahu, why do we support his role?”
He highlighted ongoing atrocities in Gaza, where over 150,000 Palestinians have lost their homes and more than 70,000 Muslim civilians have been killed since the beginning of this conflict three years ago.
On domestic governance, Fazlur Rehman criticized the government for failing to implement reforms promised under the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments. “The focus is on consolidating power rather than serving the nation,” he stated.
To conclude, he urged young people to persist in their pursuit of justice and accountability. “Our struggle is based on principles, not political opportunism,” Fazlur Rehman emphasized.
