Federal Cabinet Decides on Two-Month Salary Suspension Amid National Austerity Measures

The federal cabinet has decided to suspend two months of salaries for its members as part of a comprehensive national austerity policy. The decision comes amid economic challenges, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directing the formation of this policy in consultation with provincial leaders.

All four province chief ministers and the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir attended the meeting held under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb provided detailed briefings on the austerity measures, emphasizing conservation efforts for petroleum products due to global economic conditions.

Attendees were informed about various government initiatives designed to curtail spending. Additionally, proposals to offer assistance to deserving and low-income individuals were also discussed during the meeting.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that the national austerity policy be formulated in consultation with provincial authorities. Speaking at a crucial cabinet meeting, he highlighted the need for prudent use of national resources while maintaining economic stability.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of passing through the challenging phase and maintaining economic resilience. He underscored the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of citizens once conditions stabilize.
