Five Deaths Reported in Rain-Related Incidents Across Punjab

Rescue officials reported at least five deaths and several injuries due to rain-related incidents in Punjab over the past 24 hours. Heavy rainfall and strong winds swept through the province on Thursday, causing electrocution, lightning strikes, and structural collapses.

According to Farooq Ahmed of Punjab Rescue 1122, two fatalities occurred from lightning strikes in Narowal, one man was killed by a fallen tree in Gujranwala, and another two died in separate weather-related incidents in Lahore. Rescue teams transported the seriously injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Pakistan is among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, experiencing an increasing number of extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall, floods, heatwaves, cyclones, and droughts in recent years. In March and early April, torrential rains pushed the death toll from weather-related incidents nationwide above 80. Last year’s intense monsoon rains, combined with excess water released from Indian dams, led to flash floods that claimed at least 1,000 lives across Pakistan.
