FPCCI Seeks Supreme Court Forensic Audit of IPPs

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has approached the Supreme Court with a plea for a forensic audit of Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

The FPCCI is urging the court to mandate the recovery of excess profits paid to these producers and to amend existing agreements to ensure payments are based on electricity supply.

Additionally, the FPCCI has requested that the court nullify the IPP policies from 1994, 2002, and 2015. They argue that “The Supreme Court shall declare that the government could not earn profit over the basic need like the electricity.”

Former caretaker minister Gohar Ejaz has previously advocated for payments to IPPs to be aligned with their actual power generation. “We have only one demand, pay as much amount to an IPP as it produces power,” Ejaz stated. He also noted, “We have prepared a petition and going to the Supreme Court. Everything will clear with forensic audit of the IPPs.”
