Friend Urges UK Govt. for Harry, Meghan’s Security Restoration

Prince Harry’s friend Alex Rayner has stepped forward to advocate for his former comrade, urging the government to restore the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s automatic taxpayer-funded police protection.

The Sussexes were stripped of this security when they opted out of royal duties in 2020 to move to America. Last year, Prince Harry lost a legal battle with the Home Office to have it reinstated.

However, his request for a full risk assessment from Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood was granted last December.

The committee is expected to meet in January to discuss the reinstatement of security for the Sussexes.

Rayner, who served alongside Harry in Afghanistan and is in regular contact with him, argues that Harry’s significant service in the Armed Forces makes him particularly vulnerable. He also points out that other members of the Royal Family receive taxpayer-funded protection while Harry would have to pay privately, which he finds unfair.
