Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf was re-elected as speaker of Iran’s parliament on Monday, securing his seventh consecutive term. During elections for the presiding board of the Islamic Consultative Assembly’s third legislative year, Ghalibaf obtained 235 votes out of 271 ballots cast, according to Iranian media reports.

His challengers, Mohammad Taqian Naqdali and Osman Salari, received 29 and 7 votes respectively. Five blank ballots were recorded, while 276 voting cards had been distributed among lawmakers. The parliamentary vote also marked a procedural shift, as lawmakers used direct electronic voting boxes instead of the traditional paper ballot system previously employed in speaker elections.
