Reports indicate that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has put forth a proposal to levy a tax on individuals utilizing solar panels for residential or commercial purposes in Pakistan.
According to insider sources, the CPPA suggests imposing a tax of Rs 2,000 per kilowatt on users installing 12 kilowatts or more of solar panels for both residential and commercial applications.
The proposal, now awaiting final approval, has been forwarded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after being reviewed by the Ministry of Energy (Power Division).
If approved, consumers installing 12 kilowatt solar panels would be subject to a tax of Rs 24,000. Concurrently, the federal government is exploring options to potentially reduce the prices of solar panels as part of broader considerations.
