A gunman killed at least six people in Kyiv on Saturday before taking hostages inside a supermarket. Police stormed the store after failed attempts to negotiate with the attacker, who was shot dead during the confrontation. The mayor confirmed that four bystanders were killed on the street and one more victim died from injuries sustained later.

Ukrainian Interior Ministry head Ihor Klymenko stated that the shooter, born in 1968, had legally registered his weapon. Police negotiators tried to persuade him for about 40 minutes before storming the building but received no response. The attacker was carrying a carbine rifle, which he had previously tested-fire with authorities.

Meanwhile, Russia reported destroying 258 Ukrainian drones across 16 regions and in Crimea and the Black and Azov seas overnight. In other parts of Ukraine, civilian casualties rose as attacks intensified, including at least one strike on port infrastructure in Odesa.
