Canadian tourist shot dead at Teotihuacán pyramids
Local authorities confirm a Canadian woman was killed by gunfire Monday at the Teotihuacán pyramids in Mexico. The incident occurred when a gunman opened fire on visitors, resulting in one fatality and four injuries. The shooter later took his own life.
Video footage posted on X shows a man with a gun near the Pyramid of the Moon and gunshots being heard as tourists walked at the base of the structure. Two additional individuals were injured due to falls, according to officials.
Mexico’s Security Cabinet reported finding a firearm, bladed weapon, and ammunition at the scene. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed deep sorrow over the incident and offered condolences to the victims’ families. Authorities are in contact with the Canadian embassy regarding the situation.
The Teotihuacán pyramids, located 30 miles north of Mexico City, are among Mexico’s most significant archaeological sites, attracting millions of tourists annually.
