Lahore, Pakistan—The inaugural HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) player auction kicked off this week at the Expo Centre in Lahore, marking a significant shift from past drafts to direct player acquisitions through an auction system by eight teams. This year’s event is expected to introduce greater transparency and excitement into team formations for the upcoming season.

Notably absent from these initial bids were Pakistani all-rounders—players who often fill crucial roles due to their batting prowess as well as their bowling abilities. The first lot, focusing on all-rounder positions, featured Pakistani talent Faheem Ashraf being purchased by Islamabad United for Rs85 million. Despite strong interest in the market, other prominent Pakistani all-rounders like Imad Wasim and Mohammad Junaid did not secure any offers from the bidding process.

In contrast, international stars shone brightly in this auction, with former South African player David Warner securing a significant bid of Rs79 million by Karachi Kings. Meanwhile, another strong performer was Quetta Gladiators, who snapped up Riley Rossouw at Rs55.5 million—a deal that caught the attention of cricket aficionados.

The HBL PSL has always placed emphasis on local talent and development, but this auction is a pivotal moment in reshaping how teams will bolster their rosters for the upcoming season. With new franchises taking part under different names—such as Multan Sultans now operating with the tagline “Rawalpindi”—the league aims to engage more fans and maintain high levels of competitive excitement.

As this auction concluded, it unveiled a fresh chapter in the HBL PSL’s evolution, setting the stage for an even more dynamic season ahead. Stay tuned for further updates on team compositions and the impact these new additions will have on the game.
