The Federal Health Minister, Mustafa Kamal, made a visit on Saturday to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Polyclinic in Islamabad. His purpose was twofold: to inquire about those injured in the recent blast and to assess the medical facilities being provided to the victims.
During his media interaction after the visit, Minister Kamal described the incident as “deeply tragic and heart-wrenching.” He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and prayed for their swift recovery.
He highlighted that PIMS and Polyclinic were immediately placed on high alert following the blast, with senior officials from the Ministry of Health closely monitoring the situation.
The minister provided detailed information about the number of cases treated at both hospitals: a total of 149 patients, including 28 bodies. Of these, 121 are currently under medical care at PIMS, with 25 in critical condition. Four individuals and thirteen victims have been transferred to Polyclinic Hospital where four remain in grave danger.
Kamal also emphasized that the hospitals were fully equipped for operations, boasting ten operational operation theatres staffed by doctors, surgeons, and paramedical personnel. He announced that twenty major surgeries had already been performed, with four to six more ongoing under their care.
The minister assured that there is no shortage of blood, medicines, or surgical staff. More than sixty units of blood have already been transfused to the injured individuals. He confirmed that none of those brought to the hospitals alive have succumbed to injuries and are receiving the best possible medical attention they need.
His visit underscored the urgent care provided by Islamabad’s healthcare facilities in the aftermath of such a devastating event.
