Heavy Rain, Hailstorm Ease Lahore’s Heatwave, Disrupt Traffic & Power Outages

Heavy rain and hailstorm swept Lahore, providing much-needed relief from intense heat and significantly improving weather conditions. Dark clouds gathered over various areas, including Garhi Shahu, Mall Road, Abbott Road, and adjoining localities, followed by heavy rainfall and strong winds that lowered temperatures.

Residents welcomed the change in weather as the rain eased ongoing heatwave conditions and provided relief from soaring temperatures. Rainfall data showed the highest precipitation was recorded in Nishtar Town, where 30 millimetres of rain were measured. Chowk Nakhuda received 24 millimetres, while Gulberg recorded 7 millimetres.

The heavy rain also affected traffic flow in several parts of the city, causing delays and congestion on major roads as motorists navigated waterlogged areas and reduced visibility. Meanwhile, the adverse weather impacted the power supply system, with more than 50 feeders of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripping during the rainfall.

As a result of feeder faults and other technical issues, electricity supply was suspended in multiple areas, causing inconvenience to residents. The chief executive of LESCO said restoration efforts would begin immediately after the rain subsides, adding that power supply across the LESCO region currently remains in line with demand levels. Authorities continue to monitor the situation while technical teams remain on standby to address faults and restore electricity to affected localities.
