Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar announced Thursday that Imran Khan, founder and former prime minister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had been briefly taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a medical examination. This occurred after PTI leaders expressed growing concern over Khan’s health following reports he was suffering from an eye infection.

On Wednesday, senior opposition figures including PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan held a joint press conference where they raised alarms about the denial of access to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan. Khan had not been allowed to meet party officials or family members since his last meeting on December 20th, according to Gohar Ali Khan.

Tarar clarified that eye specialists at Adiala Jail conducted an examination and advised moving Khan to PIMS for further assessment and treatment. In response to the advice, Tarar arranged for Khan’s transfer to the hospital on Saturday night.

Doctors at PIMS examined Khan’s eyes again and after obtaining his consent, performed a minor medical procedure lasting around 20 minutes. Following the procedure, Khan was returned to Adiala Jail with medical instructions provided by the hospital. Tarar assured that Khan remained stable with satisfactory overall health during the visit.

Tarar dismissed rumors about Khan’s serious condition, stating that he was completely healthy and had merely undergone a minor eye-related procedure based on doctors’ advice. He emphasized that prisoners have access to medical facilities as per jail rules.
