India Faces Diplomatic Setback at UN as Pahalgam Accusations Against Pakistan Rejected

India’s efforts to implicate Pakistan in the recent Pahalgam attack have encountered firm resistance at the international level, as Islamabad rejected the allegations during a United Nations session and received backing from all five permanent members of the Security Council.

Diplomatic observers noted that France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, and China—often aligned with Indian strategic interests—sided with Pakistan’s position, signalling a rare moment of global consensus that left New Delhi diplomatically exposed.

The development has triggered pointed criticism of the Modi government within India, with analysts arguing that the administration’s international credibility appears weakened. Particularly striking was the stance of France and the US, both key defence partners of India, who refrained from endorsing New Delhi’s narrative despite deep military and economic ties.

During the UN meeting, Pakistan requested that its name not be cited in connection with the attack. That request was met without opposition, including from any veto-wielding member, further reinforcing the international community’s reluctance to back India’s assertions.

Pakistan maintains that the incident was a false flag operation designed to malign its global standing. A representative from Pakistan argued that India has yet to present credible evidence to support its accusations.
