Indian Army colonel arrested in Kolkata bribery case
India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Army Ordnance Corps colonel from Kolkata in a Rs 50 million corruption case. The officer, Colonel Himanshu Bali, is accused of accepting bribes from a Kanpur-based company.
The CBI took the colonel into custody under the Prevention of Corruption Act and transferred him to Delhi for further investigation. According to the FIR, the alleged scheme involved awarding multiple tenders in exchange for large sums of money.
Experts warn that such cases reveal deeper issues of corruption and administrative failures within Indian defence institutions. They argue that these recurring incidents indicate systemic problems rather than isolated instances of misconduct.
