Federal Government Grants Four-Year Extension to IB Director General
The federal government has decided to grant a four-year extension to Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director General Fawad Asadullah Khan. The decision was made public through an official statement, which highlighted his professional expertise and contributions to national security.
Khan’s appointment on April 21st marked a significant moment for the IB as he became the first officer from the intelligence cadre to be promoted to Grade 22 and subsequently elevated to the post of IB chief. Over four decades, Khan has built an extensive career in operational and strategic intelligence, earning several national honors including Tamgha-e-Shujaat in 1996, Sitara-e-Shujaat in 2017, and Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2025.
The Intelligence Bureau remains a key civilian intelligence agency in Pakistan, playing a central role in internal security and intelligence gathering.
