Intense Heat Ends in Punjab as Rain Brings Relief to Cities

Lahore and surrounding Punjab cities saw moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday after a week of intense heat. The Meteorological Department reported an average of 21mm of rainfall across Lahore, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Shakargarh, Narowal, and nearby areas.

The heaviest rain was recorded in Nishter Town with 44mm, Johar Town with 37.5mm, Lakshmi Chowk with 30mm, and around Mughalpura with 29mm. Post-rainfall, water accumulated in low-lying areas leading to power outages affecting over 100 feeders.

LESCO officials said that 40 per cent of the feeders have been restored so far. Field staff are on high alert for immediate restoration work post rain. Meanwhile, other cities like Narowal, Kasur, and surrounding regions experienced rainfall with thunder and lightning causing additional power outages.

In Gujrat and nearby areas, heavy rain brought relief and cooler weather. Bhimber in Azad Kashmir also saw heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Nakyal in Azad Kashmir experienced light rain along with strong winds. The Water & Sanitation Authority (WASA) MD Gufran Ahmed is closely monitoring water drainage operations and has deployed teams to remove accumulated rainwater in low-lying areas.
