Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ordered nuclear talks with the United States after Trump threatened “bad things” would happen without a deal. Tehran insists negotiations focus solely on the nuclear issue, despite Trump’s offer of diplomacy. In response to anti-government protests in Iran last month, US President Donald Trump deployed an aircraft carrier group to the Middle East. Pezeshkian stated that the talks will proceed “within the framework of our national interests.” Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed optimism about a nuclear deal with the United States, provided they follow President Trump’s advice for a fair and equitable negotiation. However, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned of a “regional war” if the US attacked.
