Iran Denounces US Airstrikes in Iraq and Syria as ‘Strategic Error’

Iran has strongly condemned recent US airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, labeling them a “strategic error” that will only worsen already heightened tensions in the region, exacerbated by Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

The airstrikes, which targeted Iranian-backed fighters, were launched by the US in response to a drone attack in Jordan that claimed the lives of three American soldiers. President Joe Biden has affirmed that such strikes will continue “at times and places of our choosing.”

Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denounced the US attacks, asserting that they violate international law, sovereignty, and the UN Charter. The statement underscored that these actions align with the goals of the Israeli regime and further embroil the US in the region’s conflicts, overshadowing Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Iran emphasized that the root cause of regional tensions lies in the Israeli occupation and its military campaigns in Gaza, perpetuated with staunch US support. The statement stressed that addressing these underlying issues is crucial for achieving lasting stability in the region.

The US maintains a significant military presence in the Middle East, with around 30,000 troops stationed across various bases. Additionally, in response to the Gaza conflict, the US has deployed additional troops to the region, including on naval vessels.
