Iran Holds Mass Weddings for ‘War Sacrifice’ Volunteers

Iranian officials organized mass public weddings across Tehran for couples who signed up for a state-sponsored program promising their lives in the ongoing conflict with the U.S. and Israel. The ceremonies, conducted on Monday night, took place in several major squares including over 100 in Imam Hossein Square, as reported by Iranian media.

State TV broadcast these events to boost morale during President Trump’s threats of new military action against Iran amid a fragile ceasefire following massive joint strikes on February 28. Thousands have signed up for the “self-sacrifice” program, which includes pledges like forming human chains outside power stations.

Top officials such as Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and former President Masoud Pezeshkian are among those who have registered their names. The ceremonies featured couples arriving in military jeeps with machine guns and being married on stages adorned with balloons and images of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

One participant, a young woman in an Islamic bridal dress, stated that the country is at war but young people still have the right to marry. Another couple cited their wish to honor the marriage of Imam Ali to Fatima as motivation for attending. Mehr reported 110 couples participated in the Imam Hossein Square ceremony alone, with crowds offering roses and well-wishes.

Since the start of the conflict, Iranian authorities have held large pro-government gatherings daily to emphasize popular mobilization amid the war.”
