Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, announced that his party will legally challenge the recently passed 26th Constitutional Amendment in court. Speaking to the media following a tree plantation campaign in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its position on the amendment, suggesting that the party had fallen into a political trap.

Hafiz Naeem questioned PTI’s decision to refrain from voting on the amendment, despite agreeing with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the matter. He expressed his disapproval of PTI’s decision-making, asking why the party had nominated candidates for the committee if it did not intend to participate in it.

Further supporting the ongoing lawyers’ movement, Hafiz Naeem reaffirmed that JI would take the amendment issue to court, accusing the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) of undermining the country’s judicial system.

In addition to political concerns, Hafiz Naeem touched on environmental issues, stressing the importance of increasing forest cover in Pakistan. He called upon schools, industries, and universities to actively engage in tree planting initiatives to combat environmental degradation.
