Rescuers locate missing Japanese trekker’s body

A week-long search operation involving local volunteers has led to the discovery of a missing Japanese trekker’s body in Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan region. The deceased tourist, identified as 64-year-old Yosuke Akiba, had gone to the Masroor Rock viewpoint in Skardu district.

Rescue official Ghulam Rasool stated that Akiba’s body was found in a deep crevasse near the rockside where he ventured without a local guide. Rescue teams used ropes and specialized equipment to retrieve the body from the treacherous mountain terrain.

Volunteers from Sadpara Mountaineering Club also participated in the search mission, with four veteran climbers joining the operation alongside Rescue 1122 on Saturday morning. The team successfully located Akiba’s body.

Last month, a Malaysian tourist died after reportedly suffering a stroke in Skardu, according to police. Chong Yong Huva, a 60-year-old woman, was found dead in her hotel room on April 16.
