John Thune: GOP Ready for Supreme Court Vacancy, Trump Eyes Potential Nominees

John Thune, a Senate Republican, stated that his party is prepared to confirm a Supreme Court nominee if necessary before the upcoming midterm elections. According to CNN, Thune told reporters, “That’s a contingency I think around here you always have to be prepared for. And if that were to happen, yes, we would be prepared to confirm.”

Despite these comments, formal discussions about a potential confirmation process have not yet begun. Sources familiar with the matter say speculation is still in its early stages. Donald Trump has reportedly considered candidates from within Republican ranks, including Ted Cruz.

No official indication of an imminent vacancy exists on the court; however, attention has been focused on senior justices like Samuel Alito, 76, and Clarence Thomas, 77, who have both dismissed retirement speculation.
