K-Electric Reports Strong Industrial Uptake of Winter Demand Initiative

K-Electric (KE) has witnessed a positive industrial response to the Prime Minister’s Winter Demand Initiative, which offered lower electricity rates on incremental usage from December 2024 to February 2025.

The off-peak season incentive led to a 6-7 percent increase in power consumption among industrial consumers within KE’s network, reflecting the initiative’s effectiveness in promoting higher electricity usage and economic productivity.

KE’s Head of Communications, Imran Rana, highlighted the impact of the initiative, stating: “The Prime Minister’s Bijli Sahulat Package incentivised the usage of over 100 million units of electricity cumulatively in Karachi, allowing customers to reap the benefit of higher consumption during the off season.

KE supports industries’ growth, recognising that economic stability is driven by a thriving industrial sector. This is a clear indication of the effectiveness of such targeted packages, and we encourage the continuation of initiatives that enable affordability while promoting energy efficiency.”

The government’s initiative covered residential, commercial, general services, and industrial consumers, offering lower electricity rates on incremental consumption to counter the effects of high tariffs and economic challenges. KE’s strong industrial response underscores the potential for continued policy-driven energy incentives to support Karachi’s industrial expansion and economic resilience.
