Authorities in Kalash Valley have imposed a ban on plastic bags under Section 144, effective immediately until May 17, 2026. The ban prohibits use, sale, transportation, and storage of plastic bags due to their significant contribution to environmental pollution and disruption of the natural ecosystem.

The decision comes ahead of the Chilam Joshi Festival, which attracts a large influx of tourists. Officials emphasized that strict preventive measures are necessary given the valley’s ecological sensitivity.
