The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) Chairman, Ameer Qadri, was dismissed on Friday following a backlash over the controversial Part-I exam results. The chairmanship has been handed over to Sharaf Ali Shah, Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi, on an interim basis.

Qadri has also been asked to explain his unauthorized foreign trip as concerns mount over the transparency of the results.

Out of 74,716 students who appeared for the December 2024 exams, only a fraction cleared all courses. Students from groups such as pre-medical, pre-engineering, and general science have demanded a re-evaluation of answer sheets, claiming discrepancies.

Experts highlighted that the results could hinder students’ prospects for admission to reputable universities like NED University, which requires at least 60% marks in the first year.

PTI leader Rizwan Khanzada criticized the results as “controversial,” calling for a judicial inquiry to protect the future of Karachi’s youth.

Qadri defended the results, stating they were based on merit and urged dissatisfied students to file scrutiny forms for rechecking. However, with high failure rates—over 19,000 failing in pre-medical and 16,000 in pre-engineering—the controversy continues to raise questions about the city’s educational standards.
