Karachi police have taken actor Sajid Hasan’s son and four others into custody as part of the investigation into the murder of Mustafa Amir.
According to reports, senior officials have confirmed that Hasan’s family was informed about the arrest. Authorities also have allegedly discovered a quantity of drugs in his possession, leading to a broader crackdown on drug dealers.
Footage obtained through sources within police has revealed that parties were held at the prime suspect’s house in the city’s DHA area, where drug use was allegedly rampant.
Meanwhile, the court has extended the physical remand of two other suspects, Armaghan Qureshi and Sheraz, for five more days. The two were previously detained in connection with Amir’s abduction and murder in Karachi’s Defence area.
Shiraz revealed that Mustafa Amir was subjected to hours of torture, bound with ropes, and eventually set on fire in his car. He claimed that Armaghan’s anger was fueled by his luxurious lifestyle.
The co-accused also disclosed that he and Armaghan had been friends since childhood and had even studied together. However, their friendship had ended some time ago, only to be rekindled when Armaghan visited Shiraz’s home.
Shiraz admitted to being influenced by Armaghan’s lavish lifestyle and had even attended several parties with him. He also revealed that Armaghan had a strained relationship with his parents.
At a recent hearing in the city’s Anti-Terrorism Court, investigators requested a 14-day physical remand for the suspects. The prosecution argued that statements from two employees of Armaghan must be recorded under Section 164, and forensic tests on weapons and a laptop recovered from his residence are still pending.
Samples of the mutilated remains were sent to the University of Karachi’s lab, where they matched the DNA of Mustafa Amir’s mother.
The three-member medical team comprising Dr Summaiya Syed, Dr Seri Chand, and Dr Kamran Khan arrived in Karachi on Friday and exhumed the Mustafa murder case victim’s body in Edhi Moach Goth cemetery.
In a letter to the Edhi Foundation, the judicial magistrate (West) said: “The body will remain in the Edhi mortuary until the DNA report is received. If the report is positive, the body will be returned to the family members.”
