Karachi Reports 44,000 Street Crimes in First Seven Months of 2024

Karachi has experienced a dramatic rise in street crimes, with over 44,000 incidents reported in the first seven months of 2024. The local police data highlights that motorcycle thefts are the most prevalent, with more than 31,000 motorcycles either stolen or snatched.

In addition to the high number of motorcycle thefts, over 11,800 mobile phones were also reported snatched, and approximately 1,200 cars were taken from their owners during the same period. This surge in thefts has heightened insecurity among residents.

Despite the alarming number of crimes, recovery rates are notably low. Police records show that only 1,500 motorcycles, 220 cars, and 120 mobile phones have been recovered so far.
