Karachi Sees Surge in Crime, Over 62,000 Cases Reported in 10 Months

The Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has released data detailing Karachi’s crime rates from January to October 2023, revealing a troubling rise in criminal activity across the city. During this 10-month period, more than 62,000 crimes were reported.

According to the report, 16,777 mobile phones were stolen, and over 39,000 motorcycles were taken. Additionally, 1,489 car thefts were documented, reflecting an increase in vehicle-related crimes.

The data also recorded 19 cases of kidnapping for ransom and 80 incidents of extortion, underscoring the city’s ongoing security challenges. Tragically, 478 people lost their lives due to various violent incidents, including 11 police officers who were martyred in the line of duty and 105 civilians who died while resisting robberies.
