Karachi traders have expressed interest in purchasing Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), joining the growing list of stakeholders keen on acquiring the national carrier. This interest follows similar announcements from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, speaking on a private news channel, revealed that Karachi’s business community has engaged with him regarding the PIA privatization process. “The traders in Karachi want PIA to be handed to them for a year. They are serious about launching a new airline,” Tessori stated.

The proposed name for the airline would be “PK,” symbolizing Pakistan and Karachi. Tessori also expressed support for Punjab’s plan to launch an airline named “Air Punjab,” noting that new airlines would open up employment opportunities nationwide.

This statement comes shortly after the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government conveyed its interest in PIA’s privatization. The KP Investment Board formally wrote to Federal Minister for Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, signaling their intent to submit a bid.
