Indian Court Convicts Kashmiri Leader Asiya Andrabi

An Indian court sentenced separatist leader Asiya Andrabi, head of the Dukhtaran-e-Millat group, to life imprisonment under anti-terror laws. The conviction was based on charges related to anti-state activities.

The court also handed 30-year sentences to Andrabi’s associates, Fehmeeda Sofi and Naheeda Nasreen. The case was investigated by India’s National Investigation Agency, which accused Andrabi of inciting actions against the state.

Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jeet Singh delivered the verdict after hearing arguments. Andrabi had been in custody since her arrest in April 2018.

Human rights groups have criticized the ruling, alleging it is politically motivated and raises concerns over due process. They argue that the case reflects broader tensions related to dissent in the region.
