The annual budget of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was approved after securing a majority vote in a recent city council meeting.
During his address at the meeting, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab emphasized that no new taxes have been imposed in this budget, highlighting a commitment to maintaining financial stability without further burdening citizens.
Ahead of the meeting, Mayor Wahab sought detailed insights from the finance department immediately after Eid. He proactively engaged with various stakeholders, including opposition leaders, to ensure a collaborative approach.
Last Friday, he formally invited the opposition leader through a letter, reaffirming that no new taxes would be introduced in the upcoming budget.
Mayor Wahab underscored his inclusive approach by stating that he had not proposed any schemes for his union council, showcasing his impartiality. He highlighted the constructive yet critical stance taken by the opposition, emphasizing that his administration focuses on addressing issues rather than engaging in politics over personalities.
In discussions with the opposition leader, Mayor Wahab expressed his desire for a harmonious session. He proposed that the Monday meeting should provide ample time for both his address and the opposition’s input on the budget, ensuring a balanced and thorough deliberation.
