PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi addressed the KP Assembly on Monday, emphasizing the need for a consensus-based national strategy to combat terrorism. He stated that sustainable peace could only be achieved through collective policymaking involving all stakeholders.

Speaking after arriving unexpectedly at the assembly, Afridi criticized federal policies and alleged a negative propaganda campaign against him and his government, which he said had deepened mistrust between the federation and the province. The chief minister reiterated his willingness to engage in dialogue with the federal government and state institutions, emphasizing that he was ready to meet with everyone for the benefit of the province and its people.

Afridi disclosed that a 24-member committee had decided to conduct an operation in the Tirah region during his address. He also announced that all future communication with federal institutions would be conducted through writing rather than verbally.

The chief minister highlighted financial concerns, noting that the federal government owed Rs52 billion in payments related to internally displaced persons (IDPs). He further stated that outstanding liabilities of the federation to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amounted to Rs4,758 billion.

Afridi called for unity among political forces and urged all political parties and provincial stakeholders to collaborate in formulating a comprehensive policy to counter terrorism. While acknowledging that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was once again facing a wave of militancy, he stressed that no political or religious party bore responsibility for the prevailing law and order situation.

Afridi reiterated that only a coordinated and inclusive national approach could restore peace and stability in the province.
