The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has introduced a helpline for citizens to report open manholes, assuring swift action within 24 hours.

Citizens can lodge complaints by calling 1334, with the executive engineer tasked to provide manhole covers within a day. The concerned officer must then submit a compliance report to the chief engineer and update the helpline staff on the resolution progress.

“If the concerned officer fails to address the complaint, the related executive engineers will be held accountable,” stated a KWSC spokesperson.

Open manholes remain a safety hazard, with data from Jinnah, Civil, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospitals showing around 37 sewer fall incidents annually, often resulting in severe injuries.
