In a detailed judgment, the Lahore High Court has upheld the return of funds deposited as surety by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. The move comes after a three-member full bench chaired by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file a reference with the accountability court within one week for concluding the matter.

The court emphasized that the accountability court in Lahore must decide on this reference within a month, marking a significant step towards formal closure of the case. This judgment not only impacts Maryam Nawaz personally but also sets a precedent for other cases involving high-ranking officials and their political affiliations.
