Chief Justice Aalia Neelum of the Lahore High Court has issued directives to Punjab Police for the recovery of missing women. The court ordered immediate and effective measures for tracing and recovering all 3,252 cases involving missing women in Punjab between 2021 and April 2026.
Of these, 1,405 women have been recovered while 1,853 remain missing. Chief Justice Neelum questioned how much time was needed to recover the remaining women, expressing dissatisfaction with the police’s handling of the matter over several years.
The court also inquired about the welfare of recovered women and noted that nearly 80 percent had entered into marriages by choice. The chief justice directed authorities to establish an effective mechanism for dealing with such cases.
