Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik Appointed as DG ISI: ISPR

Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik has been appointed as the new director general of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and will officially take over on September 30.

The announcement came from the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) in a press release issued on Monday.

Currently serving as the adjutant general at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Gen Malik will succeed Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, who was appointed to the position in 2021 by former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, who was commissioned in September 1988, has had a distinguished military career. He led Corps V in Karachi and held key positions including command of a brigade in Kurram Agency, leadership of Frontier Corps (North) in Balochistan, and commandant of Command and Staff College Quetta. He took charge as Karachi corps commander in December 2020.

Lt Gen Asim Malik, recognized for his leadership and academic achievements, was awarded the Sword of Honour during his military training. His career includes service as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and as an instructor at Command and Staff College in Quetta. He is also a graduate of the United States Army’s Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK.
