Matt Damon Expresses Amazement at Nolan’s World-Building for ‘The Odyssey’
Matt Damon, who stars alongside Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Lupita Nyong’o in Christopher Nolan’s new epic fantasy action film “The Odyssey,” was impressed by the director’s ability to build such a detailed world.
In an interview with Collider, Damon said, “I don’t know how he did it. I don’t know.” He praised Nolan for his vision and meticulous planning, noting that every department contributed significantly to world-building.
Damon also discussed the film’s unique IMAX aspect, which was not confirmed until late in production. The actor explained, “We didn’t know if we’d be able to do it on IMAX at first,” highlighting the challenge of adapting such a grand vision for one of cinema’s largest formats.
The film’s innovative use of mirrors for special effects posed another challenge for Damon and his co-stars. He noted that this system was both technically feasible and crucial to the film’s aesthetic, adding an intriguing layer to their creative process.
Damon previously took a break from acting after negotiating with his wife, but Nolan’s call changed his plans. The actor revealed, “I had negotiated extensively with my wife about taking time off,” only for Nolan’s unexpected call to reignite his passion for filmmaking.
