Mercury Remains Low: Karachi’s Cold Wave Set to Last Another 10 Days

The cold wave gripping Karachi is set to continue for another 10 days, according to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz. Cold winds from Balochistan are driving temperatures down, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting further drops.

The PMD revealed that a western wind system, active for the past two weeks, will persist and could push Karachi’s temperatures to single digits within the next three days. Currently, inactive sea breezes and northeast winds from Balochistan are shaping the city’s weather, with an anticipated shift in wind direction expected to influence conditions across Sindh.

Areas like Tharparkar and Umarkot are predicted to face harsher cold in the coming days, the PMD warned.

On Wednesday, Karachi recorded a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 27 degrees Celsius—a drop of 1.2 degrees. Meanwhile, Mithi in Sindh experienced the province’s lowest temperature at a frigid 1.5 degrees Celsius.

As winter tightens its grip across Pakistan, intensified cold in Sindh and snowfall in northern regions are expected to dominate the weather outlook.
